Exclusion

Here on our Ovi Gaming specialist site, Ewan uncovers and reviews Exclusion, a new arcade puzzler from Nokia, released for free in the Ovi Store. A crazy combination of Bejewelled, Life and some Star Wars light sabre slashing title, Exclusion ticks all the boxes, features never-ending, always challenging gameplay, works brilliantly on Nokia's S60 5th Edition phones and seems to thoroughly deserve Ewan's 84% score. Not that the score should matter, given the price, but... hey, just download it, will you?

Review: Gears

In this Ovi Gaming review, Ewan plays through the 50 provided levels in Gears, a new cog-based puzzler in the Ovi Store. Despite the superficial similarity of the levels, he feels that there's enough here for a recommendation for anyone who fancies "a mix of Tetris and a jigsaw puzzle". Ovi Gaming is our gaming-specialist site, here's the full list of Ovi Store game reviews.

Top Ten Games to show off your Symbian-powered touchscreen smartphone

It used to be just receiving a call, or picking up an email via a push SMS (good old email-to-text gateways back in the nineties). Now, to impress people with your phone in the pub, you need something a little bit better - and it tends to be a game. So what should your Symbian-powered touchscreen smartphone be ready to show off when called into action? Ewan and I run through the Top Ten contenders...

Doodle Jump

Our own Ewan Spence is no stranger to casual games on handheld platforms - heck, he's programmed a few himself in the past. Here on Ovi Gaming, he reviews Doodle Jump, a quirky new casual arcade game with simple controls. Summary? It's addictive - and surprisingly social - and don't let the fact that it's a port of an iPhone title put you off.

Creebies

It's your 1990's Tamagotchi taken into 2010 - Creebies sees you looking after the welfare of multiple kritters and their island, with mini-games and a complete 3D virtual environment to wander around. Ewan's rather taken by the title and pronounces it perfect both for casual and long-term gaming here in his Creebies review for our Ovi Gaming site.

Astraware Casino

Not your average two-bit casino game, Astraware Casino is the real deal, or so reckons Ewan, in his review. With no less than ten casino favourite 'tables', plus good graphics, realistic gameplay and extras galore, this £1.50 title from the Ovi Store is a sure bet, it seems. OK, cash me out!

Mercury Meltdown

Leaping on Mercury Meltdown, a past PSP favourite and now available in the Ovi Store, Ewan finds out in this review, here on Ovi Gaming, that both titles and marketing screenshots can be deceptive. From blocky graphics to clumsy controls, it's fair to say that this is a game that disappoints at almost every level.

'3D Brick Breaker Revolution 2' and 'World Series of Poker 3: Hold Em Legend'

Breakout clones have been a computing staple since the earliest days of TV consoles. So it's not surprising to see yet another variant hit the Ovi Store. In this case it's 3D Brick Breaker Revolution 2, featuring psychedelic effects and more power-ups than you can imagine. But is it any good as a game? Steve Litchfield investigates in this first part of a double-review here on our very own Ovi Gaming site. In the second part, Ewan Spence looks at World Series of Poker 3: Hold Em Legend, admiring both its ambitious UI and gameplay but having reservations about the quality of its graphics.

Omar Sharif Bridge 2

Looking for the third time (in seven years) at ZingMagic's Bridge title, Ewan reviews the latest "Omar Sharif Bridge 2" for S60 5th Edition and touchscreen phones here on Ovi Gaming, revelling in the mature game play and the interface that's now even more intuitive. It's also worth noting that it's a lot cheaper now than it used to be, making it a 'must buy' for Bridge lovers.

Review: Gravity Surf

It may look nice in the screenshots, and the style of gaming has a strong pedigree, but Ewan's been arcading again and, in his Ovi Gaming review concludes that Gravity Surf, fresh from the Ovi Store, is pretty boring, clunky, and misses the mark, with a control system that's got nowhere near enough finesse. His overall rating of 54% speaks volumes, I reckon.
